What is The Coco Drip?

The Coco Drip is the brainchild of entrepreneurs and North Carolina Central University Alumni Uyi Idahor and Brianna Kennedy. What began as a shared desire for connection and representation evolved into Black Women of Durham—a gathering space—and later The Coco Drip, a pop-up event supporting Black Women-Owned Businesses. With backgrounds in education, business consulting, diversity, and equity, we recognized a need for spaces that uplift Black Women’s creativity and entrepreneurship.

Their first Coco Drip event, which we planned for Women’s History Month 2020, was postponed due to the pandemic. Undeterred, we relaunched in October 2020, adjusting for safety while staying true to our mission. The event was well received, with several of the original vendors still participating five years later.

Today, The Coco Drip has traveled to a number of cities and showcased over 400 Black Women-Owned Businesses. Since 2020, we have expanded from Durham into Virginia, Maryland, and Georgia—empowering Black Women to start, grow, and thrive in business.

The businesses that join us at The Coco Drip receive promotion through multiple media platforms, an opportunity to collaborate with other Black women-owned businesses, and a platform to sell their goods and services to a new audience. Our Black Women-Owned Businesses feature a variety of products and services like personalized crafts, books, apparel, hair care products, and many other unique items.

Overall, we wanted to empower and encourage Black Women to believe in themselves to START or KEEP GOING, regarding entrepreneurship.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in making The Coco Drip a success! #ThisIsOnlyTheBeginning
